What is balearic?

It’s a mindset. It’s a direct dose of unadulterated Vitamin D soaking into your skin, a tinny version of Sade’s “Keep Looking” blaring out of a car’s rolled down window, it’s complete & utter naffness. It’s Bjork outside of Covent Garden in a mohair cardigan, Terry Farley in a smiley face t-shirt, a grainy VHS logo reading “Ra-Gui Film Presenta: Café del Mar, Ibiza, Summer 1992.” It’s the MDMA-fueled scene that birthed British house music, subtlety, nuance, but also, melody, overwhelming emotion, heart music, dancing through the sunset. It’s the calm before the second summer of love’s storm, growing your hair out, every syllable out of the mouth of Liz Fraser from Cocteau Twins. It’s the balearicist’s guide to revolution: Drop acid, not bombs. Can’t you see it? Can’t you feel it?
